Elopement on 35mm Film
The most beautiful, stylish elopement was perfect for 35mm film. High up in the Malibu hills, above the clouds, the sky was such a perfect blue with candy floss clouds. Film photography loves these conditions – its a shame it was so hot we spent as little time as possible outside!! You’d never know and my couple did amazing in the heat.
In our call a couple of weeks before the elopement, Anisah told me they wanted a ‘home video’ vibe to the photos. I also circled the word ’emotion’ about five times, and made a note that the cake was important to them.
This was the perfect style of working for me, too. I spent the day lurking in corners and hiding behind trees, to give them as much privacy as possible whilst keeping on ‘home video’ assignment. All six film cameras came out, each having a different look and personality. What you will not see here are the Polaroids. Some things I like to keep private for my couples 🙂
The Reverend I Do, Whitney, is the best officiant I’ve had the pleasure to work with. Her ceremony was so heartfelt, and to everyone’s surprise she had written something special for Anisah’s daughter. I’m sure you’ll agree, she’s also incredibly stylish!

Film Wedding Photos
As always, I’m so grateful to my couples for trusting in the ‘non wedding, wedding photos’ process. Part of that magic is capturing the day on analogue film, for a bit of instant nostalgia and a bit of anarchy. I used a variety of 35mm and medium format cameras, and for this wedding I took uncle Alan’s Polaroid SX-70 land camera I inherited.
Film used:
Kodak Portra 800 | Kodak Portra 400 | Kodak TMax 400 | Ilford HP5 400 | Polaroid SX-70
