These images are not necessarily the best weddings photos I took throughout the year and they possibly won’t be my clients’ favorite photos, but for me the photos that follow really sum up my personality as a wedding photographer in 2019. At the end of the day the things that make an amazing photo for me are the subject, composition and emotional reaction. I was taught a long time ago whilst studying photojournalism that for every action there is a reaction and I’m always looking ahead for that.
2019 was without a doubt the busiest year of my career so far. Not only because I got to photograph some of the most incredible weddings I’ve ever had the privilege of witnessing, but also because I was starting my business afresh in Southern California after the move South from San Francisco.
I started 2019 by finding out I was honored by WeddingWire with a Couple’s Choice award and then one of my images being chosen for Fearless Photographers’ ‘Right On’. I’m winding down with a snowy finish to the year – shooting an engagement session in the snowy mountains at Big Bear which is one of my dream locations.
The moments that follow aren’t scripted or directed. They’re pockets of time that happen to occur at the precise moment I press the button. When I think about all the things that have to align for me to capture a good photo it is really quite incredible. When a photographer has passion for what they do it shows in the images they create and I hope you enjoy seeing the humour, joy, nerves and love in the following photos.
This was one incredible year.
