Lake Tahoe elopement
A Lake Tahoe elopement was the perfect choice for Jaz and Carl. They moved from San Francisco to Truckee as it fit so well with their lifestyle. I must say I was a little envious of the house and the proximity to the mountains!
Jaz and Carl are not a traditional couple by any means – the goal of the day was to get married and have a big lakeside party! And that is what they did, in style. The ceremony location was actually a vista point turnoff overlooking Donner Lake.
Jaz’s mum became ordained and performed the intimate and personal ceremony. And she did it while wearing the most fabulous flower crown! Doesn’t she look like a flower fairy?
As they are both climbers, they tied a climber’s knot together to seal the deal. I’d not seen that before and it really was a lovely touch, especially for an elopement in a location like Lake Tahoe. Jaz also made the sweetest connection to her best friend Robyn by wearing the dress she was married in two years prior.
After the lovely ceremony we headed down to the lake for the party. It is not every wedding the bride gets thrown in a lake, and it is not every wedding where all the guests were able to go paddleboarding after! The party continued long after I left – I had to catch a flight to Vegas. I think I missed some hijinks!
Leave no trace
For this Lake Tahoe elopement the couple (and Jaz’s mum) made some really pretty paper and lace streamers, which were so easy to dispose of at the end of the day. Following the Leave No Trace principles is really important should you choose to elope outside. If you’d like a reminder:
- Plan Ahead and Prepare
- Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces
- Dispose of Waste Properly
- Leave What You Find
- Minimize Campfire Impacts
- Respect Wildlife
- Be Considerate of Other Visitors

Please join me in wishing Jaz and Carl all the happiness for the future. And please, please be aware of campfire impacts on our beautiful state.
