Sequoia National Park Wedding

A wedding in Sequoia National Park was the dream for Shannon and Daniel because it is a place that means so much to them. Not only do they love hiking and spending time in Sequoia National Park, it is also where Daniel proposed!

Originally the wedding was planned at a local venue in April. However their sunrise winter engagement shoot was so fun and so THEM I was not surprised when Shannon called to tell me the news. She and Daniel decided to elope in Sequoia National Park on the date of their fourth anniversary instead. It was the perfect choice.

Their wedding day dawned bright, with the sun bouncing off the snow and creating tiny glittering flakes in the air. The shops & restaurants were closed as it was still off-season but the kind folk at Wuksachi Lodge provided us coffee for the wedding breakfast! This is the beauty of an elopement – your wedding day your way.

Shannon and Daniel had opted for a first look – Laura (best friend and officiant) drove ahead with Daniel and I had the honor of driving the bride! We didn’t have many choices for location as there was still so much snow on the ground. I think you’ll agree that the Big Trees Trail was perfect for them.

Sequoia Elopement

After an emotional first look we headed towards the meadow for the ceremony. It was so quiet and peaceful as they said their vows, only punctuated by the crunch of our boots on the snow. The snow drifting off the nearby trees was nature’s confetti as they were pronounced husband and wife. I love the moment just after the first kiss, the ‘oh my gosh we’re married!’ moment. It is one of my favourites (yes I have many!) because of the pure joy.

We spent the rest of their wedding day wandering Sequoia National Park taking photos along the way. As we walked my thoughts turned to Shannon as her beloved father passed away last year. I think we were both looking for and half expecting to see a butterfly or other sign he was there in spirit.

It was not until later when we went through their photos we saw the rainbow. I took hundreds of images on the day but only one has a rainbow. He shone directly over Shannon & Daniel just as they were hugging their ‘oh my gosh we’re married’ moment. You will not see that image here as it is understandably a private moment for Shannon.

Please join me in congratulating Shannon & Daniel! I wish you all the happiness in the world.
