Katrina & Lawrence
The Winery SF on Treasure Island is somewhere I had always wanted to shoot a wedding, and what better people to spend the day with than Katrina and Lawrence! We first met at their engagement shoot in San Francisco, and I was immediately taken with this adorable and fun couple. Erik, Katrina’s son, joined us and we had a blast!
A year later and I arrived at the St Francis Drake hotel for the start of the big day. This hotel has the most amazing glass elevator, I felt very Willy Wonka in it. Upstairs in Katrina’s room it was all go. Katrina had made the cutest boxes for her bridesmaids, and when I went down to visit Lawrence he had done the same for his best man and groomsmen. So sweet and thoughtful.
Katrina was an incredibly calm bride, drinking and giggling with her truly lovely bridesmaids & maid of honor. Cheryl, Donna and Dezirae – you’re amazing!! I was also taken aback at Katrina’s mum Ana – she looks so young! Clearly runs in the family – her grandmother was up and dancing the twist later that night.
The atmosphere downstairs where the men were was a little different, and by that I just mean louder! The whole wedding party was loud and joyous and fun. This couple were out to have a good time and celebrate! Lawrence took a moment with his brother and groomsmen, and I left them to the final preparations.
In a beautiful blush dress by Galina Signature, with a small blue heart painted on her toe and a photo of her late father with the bouquet, it was time to head down to Union Square with Katrina for the first look. We chose the giant heart as the location as a nod to their engagement session – one of the images from that day was with the giant heart on the Embarcadero.
The bridemaids, groomsmen, Erik, Katrina’s mum and various tourists watched as Lawrence saw Katrina for the first time with sheer delight on his face. This groom was SO excited to get married!!! Later on he would dance down the aisle and prove my theory correct!
On the return to the hotel we couldn’t help but laugh as we passed Victoria’s Secret. The window display was the exact colour scheme as the bridesmaids dresses! The wedding party popped upstairs for some final preparation, and I took Erik off to get a hot dog.
Unfortunately my getaway car was not nearly as fun as theirs! I can only image the party atmosphere on the cable car – what a great way to cross the Bay Bridge! The vibrant colours of the trolley contrasted so nicely against the bright sun on the island, and our Winery SF wedding was underway.
Treasure Island may sound like an odd place so close to San Francisco and the tech companies, and I love it. It is an artificial island in the San Francisco Bay, built in 1936–37 for the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition. It is also famous for its monthly flea market and annual music festival. Of course, it is named after the novel by Robert Louis Stevenson.
The Winery SF is a smashing wedding venue. Urban, slightly nautical with great views and feels very private. We took some time for photos, and got sillier and sillier pretending to be in a music video!!
Katrina and Lawrence had their wedding ceremony right outside the winery, with the Bay Bridge as a picture-perfect backdrop. Both mums were flower girls, and as promised Lawrence danced down that aisle!! It was a short and sweet, very special ceremony between two people very much in love, with many touching moments that moved the guests.
One of the most memorable things for me was the way Erik was treated as a VERY important person. He was included in everything throughout the day, and after the first kiss he ran straight up to cuddle the newlyweds as they became three. Even the officiant was in tears!
Katrina and Lawrence love to dance and it shows! After their joyful return down the aisle, all three bust out into a pre-choreographed dance to ‘This Is How We do It’ by Montell Jordan. I cannot say enough how joy was the main element of the whole day. I had a massive smile on my face all day, so much my cheeks were hurting by the time I drove home.
Their love story is just as much fun as they are. Unknown to him Lawrence was Katrina’s high school crush, but he had no idea who she was! Clearly he stayed on her mind after school, because she ended up finding him on Instagram and “slid in his DMs” (her words!).
Back at The Winery SF, their wedding reception was beautifully decorated, from the elegant centerpieces, to the wine barrels and string lighting, and it went perfectly with their energetic crowd. Did they walk in to their reception? Of course not! They danced!! Both Katrina and Lawrence danced with their mothers, joined by Erik of course. Everyone had a blast, and you can see that in the photos!
Congrats to Katrina and Lawrence (and Erik), and scroll down for some of the happiest photos you’ll ever see!
